New colors in dance basics

Costumes for the "Ball de Gitanes".

Our country is full of traditions, where music and dance unite neighbors on holidays. One of these traditions is the »Ball de Gitanes" in Catalonia or the "Dansa de la carxofa o Ball de les magranes" in the Valencian Community, where castanets, bells and dresses with a lot of flight are the protagonists.

It is a series of choreographies danced in pairs, where several characters appear, each with their own costumes. According to tradition, it is a dance that takes place close to Carnival, although many municipalities also dance it during the Fiestas Mayores, which last from spring to autumn.

While it is true that each colla or esbart -the name given to the dance groups- chooses its own combination and colors, there is a certain pattern in these sets.

Women wear a two-piece dress with shirt or T-shirt on top, skirt with ruffle and belt. It can also be accompanied with an embroidered shawl.

For his part, the man wears a white or black shirt and pants, and depending on the dance or the region, can be accompanied by a vest, a red satin bow or a sash, among others.

In Ravial we are specialized in flamenco fashion, among others. And one of the branches of this flamenco fashion is dance. A discipline danced all over the world where the fabric helps to give movement and spectacularity to such an incredible dance.

Therefore, today we analyze the different families of fabrics that best suit this discipline:

Knitted fabrics

When looking for a comfortable fabric, especially for rehearsal skirts, we must look at the interlock.An elastic fabric that only stretches to one side.

Crepe fabrics

A durable, fairly lightweight, matte and roughto the touch fabric, available in both plain and a variety of prints. This type of fabric will give us drape as well as good shape.It is not an elastic fabric.

This is a bi-elastic fabric, elegant and with a lot of presence, which does not wrinkle.

Transparencies

The details of the suit are what will give it character and personality. And a good tool, in addition to the pattern, is to play with transparencies. The only requirement to take into consideration is that it is an elastic fabric so that it can adapt to the body, following every movement before returning to its natural shape.

Fluorine Print

As we already advanced a few weeks ago in this post, we have incorporated a new machine with fluorine ink.

To this new print, we have added a new a new thick and elastic base* with which to make leotards, leotards, swimming costumes or tops, among others.

Velvet and Flocked Fabrics

Velvet keeps defending its presence on stage, thanks to its characteristics: a bi-elastic fabric, elegant and with a lot of presence, which does not wrinkle.

At the same time, velvet details (or flocked decorations) are another important and very versatile tool to complete different dance outfits; be it classical dance, urban dance or flamenco dance.
