THE PRIDE FLAG: A SYMBOL OF DIVERSITY, FREEDOM AND LOVE
With the arrival of the month of June, LGTBI+ Pride Day is celebrated all over the world, a date which invites us to reflect, support and make visible the struggle for the rights of this group. And if there is one symbol that universally represents this cause, it is undoubtedly the rainbow flag.

This iconic flag was created in 1978 by artist and activist Gilbert Baker, at the request of Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay politicians in the United States. Their goal was clear: to create an emblem that would convey the pride, beauty and diversity of the LGTBI+ community. The original version had eight coloured stripes, each with a symbolic meaning.

Today, the most recognised version includes six horizontal stripes:
❤️ Red: life
🧡 Orange: health
💛 Yellow: Sunlight
💚 Green: nature
💙 Blue: serenity
💜 Violet: spirit
This simplification was adopted for logistical reasons, but its message remains intact: celebrate diversity, freedom to love and equality.
🌍 Why 28 June?
• The first anniversary, in 1970, was celebrated with the first Pride march in New York, and other cities such as Los Angeles and Chicago joined in.
• Since then, 28 June has become a symbol of struggle, visibility and pride, and today it is celebrated in many countries with marches, cultural activities, demonstrations and celebrations.
